Driving directions from Tampa International: Follow signs to take N Memorial Hwy to I-275 south. Take Exit 23B and bear right to take SR 595 west toward Treasure Island. Turn left on 66th St N, then continue on Pasadena Ave N, and continue on 75th Ave. Turn left on Gulf Blvd. Driving directions from St Petersburg/Clearwater: Turn left on Roosevelt Blvd, then take Ulmerton Rd (SR 688). Turn left on 49th St N and continue on US 19 for about 6 miles. Turn right on 5th Ave N, then turn left on 66th St N. Continue on Pasadena Ave N, then continue on 75th Ave. Turn left on Gulf Blvd. Getting there: The best option from either airport is a shuttle van ($16–25; fees subject to change without notice), or a rental car. Getting around: The three Tradewind resorts are all within a short walk of one another. A trolley (less than $5; fees subject to change without notice) runs the length of the beachfront and is a good choice for jaunts up and down the beach. For other destinations, a taxi or rental car is the best option.

This hotel features 159 guestrooms on six floors, all outfitted in coral and turquoise hues with wood furniture. Many rooms have private balconies or sliding doors with a railing. Views range from rooms overlooking Gulf Boulevard to suites with a clear ocean view. Rooms include wet bars with refrigerators, coffeemakers, and toasters as well as in-room safes; suites have kitchenettes with two-burner stoves. The resort charges a daily fee for its Explorer Value Pass, which covers a variety of amenities including local, toll-free, and operator-assisted phone calls; use of in-room safes; and daily newspaper delivery.

Of the two TradeWinds properties that share acres of beachfront property on St. Pete Beach, the Sandpiper Hotel & Suites is probably the quietest and most relaxed. The resort offers heated indoor and outdoor pools, beach access and cabanas, and patio and garden areas. In addition, there is a restaurant and lounge, a fitness center, and a small gift shop on site. Guests of the hotel are also welcome to use the recreational, dining, and spa facilities at the affiliated nearby TradeWinds Island Grand and charge items to their rooms at the Sandpiper. Numerous recreational activities are available in addition to daily children’s and family programs. The hotel charges a mandatory nightly fee, called the Explorer Value Pass, which covers a variety of extras including parking; local, toll-free, and operator-assisted phone calls; use of the in-room safes; use of the resort fitness centers, tennis courts, beach cabanas, and paddleboats; use of the business center computers and printers; incoming and outgoing faxes; and other resort activities and amenities as well as daily newspaper delivery.
